Olympic Rings Floral Spectacular
0

The Olympic rings are in bloom at Kew Gardens, with only 84 days to go until the games begin. The amazing installation is in celebration of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The rings are 50m long and made up of a staggering 20,000 plants which can be seen from the flight path at Heathrow. It took a group of volunteers and staff at Kew five days to plant. They consist of Light Blue, Clear Yellow, Black Delight and Red Blotch Pansies and apple mint (Mentha suaveolens).

Also to celebrate the UK’s role in the Olympics a total of 40 oak trees are being planted at venues around the UK. Trees grown from acorns from an English oak planted in 1890 during the visit of the founder of the modern Olympic Movement, Pierre de Coubertin.
