Flower arrangements you can eat

No matter the occasion, whenever you receive a bunch of fresh flowers, it’s an extremely satisfying experience. What’s even more satisfying is when you receive an edible arrangement! Not only is your bouquet good to look at, but it tastes good too! The best part of all is that you can make one of these arrangements yourself with just a few ingredients!

You need:

  • Cookie or cake recipe of your choice
  • Icing in various colours
  • Cake décor like sprinkles
  • A cake stand or plate
  • Cookie cutters in whatever shape you prefer (flowers work great)

Instructions:

For cakes:

  • Make your favourite cake or brownie as per the recipe you prefer. You can even make more than one if you’d like a variety.
  • Allow your cake to cool before you continue to cut out the shapes using your cookie cutters. Flowers are an excellent choice but you can mix it up if you want a specific theme.
  • Mix your icing sugar and make sure that you have a few colours. If you are decorating flowers, you will need yellow for the middle and another colour for the petals.
  • Decorate your cut out cakes and continue to use other decorative items like sprinkles for an even more delicious effect.
  • Arrange your decorated cakes on the cake stand or plate and feel free to decorate with a ribbon too.

For cookies:

  • Mix your cookie dough and roll it out to a fair thickness.
  • Use your cookie cutters to cut out the shapes before baking.
  • Once baked, allow them to cool before decorating.
  • You will need a thicker icing for the outline and a thinner one as a filler.
  • Again, you can add sprinkles but you need to do so immediately before the icing dries.
  • Arrange on a stand or plate and decorate the plate with a ribbon.

If you like, you can create an edible arrangement consisting of both cakes and cookies. Edible glitter and glazed fruit add shine and sparkle to any edible arrangement. Remember that you can make this a few hours or a day in advance but they will spoil if you make them too far in advance.
