Decorate Christmas gifts with flowers

Decorating your Christmas tree usually involves a fair bit of time and effort. Since your Christmas decorations are usually quite intricate, you wouldn’t want your Christmas gifts to look plain by comparison. All the more reason to brush up on those gift wrapping skills and figure out how to spruce it up. Fresh, dried, and pressed flowers can all be used to decorate gifts and, if you are looking for instructions or inspiration, here’s how to decorate your Christmas gifts with flowers.

Things you need:

  • Selection of flowers of your choice (pressed, fresh, artificial, or whatever you prefer)

  • Gift box (can be new or used)

  • Tweezers

  • Wood glue

  • Ribbon (festive theme)

  • Accessories (optional)

Instructions:

  • Start with a plain gift box. Keep it plain so that the flowers will really stand out.

  • If the box already has some décor, you might want to cover it again with plain wrapping paper. Choose a colour that will either be much lighter or much darker than your flowers.

  • Once your box is ready, it’s time to choose how to use the flowers to decorate it. Make sure that you plan your design before you start sticking your flowers in place.

  • If you want to use pressed flowers, you can glue them onto the box using wood glue.

  • If you want to use fresh flowers or artificial flowers, you can do so in a number of ways. Some people like to make a small bouquet and tie the stems together before attaching them to the gift.

  • Depending on where you are placing your flowers, you could attach the ribbon before or after securing the flowers in place. Your flowers can overlap the ribbon but the ribbon should not overlap the flowers.

  • If any of your flowers are overlapping one another, you should consider taking a break in betwee layers. This is to avoid the bottom layers from shifting and to avoid getting sticky.

  • Use tweezers to hold the flowers while you apply the glue. Keep a damp cloth handy too. You can use it to wipe the tweezers if you get them dirty.

  • You can also add accessories like holiday bells, some mistletoe, holly, or anything along these lines to underline that festive theme.

Not only is this a fun craft, but it’s also a great way of recycling those old boxes! If you want to keep it really simple, just recover an old shoe box and then decorate it. You can secure the ribbon to the top part of the box so that it still opens easily without having to undo the ribbon at all.
