Beautiful succulent varieties

Succulents are some of the most unusual and beautiful plants around. Not only are they slower growing plants, but they also require minimal care. This means that they are perfect for beginners and they will not need to be transplanted to often. When choosing a succulent, it’s good to remember that there are a number of varieties available. Each of which offers its own unique beauty.

Burrow’s Tail

This succulent is known for resembling the tail of a donkey. It can grow up to four inches and this succulent is, in fact, a cactus. This succulent grows very well indoors and prefers well drained soil. The long stems will drape over the edge of the pot so make sure that you allow for this kind of growth.

Flaming Katy

This plant is part of the kalanchoe family and it prefers warmer temperatures. It is sensitive to the cold which is why you should never leave it outside or close to a chilly window in winter. They enjoy well drained soil and plenty of sunlight every day. In the cooler months of the year, this plant blooms and it is a gorgeous sight!

Jade Plant

Similar to a bonsai, this plant has a thick trunk and branches. The leaves are thick and oval in shape. The leaves often become red along the tips and, when the plant is mature, you may get to enjoy some delightful pink or white flowers! These flowers are star shaped and superb to behold.

Aloe Vera

This is probably one of the most well-known of all succulents. Not only is it extremely easy to grow, but this plant has amazing medicinal purposes. If you have a skin irritation or insect bite, you can pick a piece of this plant and rub the juice on the affected area. You can even consume this plant for its nutritional value.

Pincushion Cactus

As mentioned earlier, cacti are succulents and they also prefer similar conditions. They prefer warmer conditions, plenty of sun, and not too much water. The soil should offer good drainage and, if you meet their needs, you will notice small yet very bright flowers start to form!

Zebra plant

As the name suggests, this plant has white stripes and it really does resemble a zebra! They usually grow up to about five or six inches in height and width. This is great news since you can be sure that they won’t take up too much space. The leaves stick out in various directions and this plant produces bright yellow flowers that have a cone shape. These flowers usually last for approximately one week.

No matter the type of succulent you choose, you can be sure that it will be easy to grow. If you have pets or small children, you might want to avoid cacti with sharp spikes.
